ICLEI is the first and largest global network of local governments devoted to solving the world’s most intractable sustainability challenges. Our standards, tools, and programs transparently and robustly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve lives and livelihoods, and protect natural resources in the more than 500 U.S. communities we serve. Globally, ICLEI serves as the focal organization to the United Nations on local governments for climate and nature.
Through a grant from the State, The University of Michigan Graham Sustainability Institute coordinates the Catalyst Leadership Circle (CLC). Michigan local governments that participate in the Michigan Green Communities Challenge and receive a gold or silver certification are eligible to join the CLC. We meet every other month, providing these communities with the opportunity to collaborate, share resources, and peer network. CLC communities are also able to participate in the CLC Fellowship, which helps build their capacity and provides them with a graduate student to work on an advanced project over the summer.
The Metropolitan Mayors Caucus is a non-profit regional council of governments fostering collaboration to improve quality of life in the 275 communities we serve. In addition to issues of municipal governance, resources and capacity, we also focus on sustainability and housing.
